10 Items I’ll Always Have in My Closet
a deep dive into the building blocks of my closet and my favorite wardrobe essentials
When I was in college I had “going out” clothes and gym clothes - no in-between. When I entered corporate America, “things I wore to work” got added to the mix, but that was it. I bought what caught my eye, experimented with different styles and silhouettes, and filled as needed.
Despite loving fashion, I didn’t think much about my personal style, or what I wore outside of work, going out and the gym. I had no strategy or consideration for how pieces fit into my wardrobe and worked together let alone how long they would be there.
It wasn’t until I left adidas that I started to think about my style, what I wanted to wear, and how I wanted to feel on a daily basis. And while it will always be evolving, I feel like I finally have a solid understanding of my style and what makes up the building blocks of my wardrobe.
The below items are my “tried and trues” - the foundation, or core, of my wardrobe. They’re the pieces that I reach for several times a week, make me feel amazing and often wear year round (or at least a good chunk of it).
They are also some of the categories in my closet that I often have multiples of. When you understand your style and the pieces that consistently make you feel good, it’s easier to experiment with different design details and fabrications for a touch of personality and interest.
Whether these items align with your vibe or not, I invite you to consider what these core items might be for you. The styles and colors that make you feel amazing and get excited to rewear regardless of rules, codes or runway trends. You might be surprised what you land on.
Let’s get to it!
